If you take a stroll through a furniture store or furniture website or catalog, you may be a bit shocked at the prices of beds these days. It’s enough to keep you awake at night! It’s not impossible to get a great look for less, however. The key is to start with a basic bed frame and build on that. Doing an online search for your locale is a good place to start: such as cheap bed frames los angeles.
An inexpensive but sturdy bed frame is the foundation for your bedroom; it’s simply used to support the mattress and any frame in the proper size will do. The expensive part of a bed is the headboard. If you don’t already have a mattress, you can find discount retailers for those as well; but don’t buy a used mattress. You may be inviting bed bugs and bacteria into your home.
Once you are set with a bed frame and mattress in an appropriate size for your room, think about the look you want. You can get inspiration from design magazines and websites. Pay attention to the color schemes in your inspiration photos and you’ll notice that cool colors like gray, blue, green and silver are used in contemporary designs, while warm colors like yellow, red and amethyst are used in classic settings.

White is popular for country or cottage looks. Also pay attention to the headboards and this is where the fun and creativity for your room really comes into play!
Nearly anything can fill in for a headboard if it is the right size and scale. You can hang a huge piece of wrought iron for example, or turn a salvaged vintage door on its side and hang it on the wall above the bed. Another cool idea is to build a frame out of wood in and stretch fabric over it, stapling it to the backside. Then just hang it on the wall above the bed. You can also opt to do, for example, three smaller panels instead of one large one or an asymmetrical grouping of panels. A collection of old art frames or artworks can also be hung above a bed in lieu of a headboard. Another idea is to get a blank canvas, frame it up and create your own modern art with the paint colors of your choice.
The possibilities to unleash your creativity are endless! So go ahead and give it a go today.
